The purpose of this wiki is to make sure that our researchers do not repeat historical research for every new project we begin. It is organized by campus space, then by building, both historic and contemporary. Each of these building files should be considered a historical file on each building, and on the space that it occupies. This means that the entry on "College Hall" should include all the mentions of College Hall that you have found during your research.

When you have completed your research portion, you should begin by writing a comprehensive historical account of the building or space, which should go in the same entry as your notes from your research. This way, a student in five years who needs to do research on College Hall can visit this wiki, read a summary of the history of the building, see what sources have already been used by researchers, and not duplicate any research.

Citations are critical. Without citing your sources, both historical and secondary, we are unable to determine what sources have already been looked at. This means that, despite the fact that you already did the work, someone else will have to do it again in order to get the correct citations. Please use a regular citation format that includes author name, date, page number, publication, publication type (personal journal? article? newspaper? map?), publication title, where it was found (MSU Archives? Website? Michigan historical Library?), and any sort of accession number associated with the document, particularly if it was found in an archive.

Please be diligent with this work. It is visible to the public, so other people will be able to see and use what you are posting. Make sure it is accurate, professional, and, most importantly, useful.
